October 15, 2008The Hundred Acre Woods: forest playland outside of Austin (epic festival). by moe. It's all about beginnings this year on the tour. The beginnings of the spread of the green word: the beginnings of the roadshow, the beginnings of new relationships and spaces. Here in Austin our festival was held at The Hundred Acre Wood, a developing festival space in Manor, Texas. There are two amazing folks holding down this place: Rebecca and Chad-- clearing brush, digging fire pits, making paths and pruning trees to create a safe place for folks to celebrate sustainability. This was our last full setup for the tour: the last dome, the last tent, the last full carnival, and it was all nestled into a beautiful grove of trees. The stage rocked it this weekend with some talented singer/songwriters and the powerful groups Pocket Full of Deng and Fatback Circus. As usual, the Sporriors' mushroom workshop was the hit of the festival, a great gathering spot for the weekend community. The crew is taking a day to explore Austin before launching into the chores and logistics of the road home. Director Zachary Carson has departed to start work on next year's tour, David Satori has left to tour with Beats Antique, and the remaining crew are gathering the pieces to begin the beginning of the end, with a farewell mix of hope.
